Norman Brook joins Expert Panel at Sochi Peace & Sport Forum

Sochi

Norman Brook attended the 6th edition of the Peace and Sport International Forum which took place in the city of Sochi, Russian Federation from the 31 October to 2 November 2012, under the presidency of H. S. H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Contributing to the plenary session on “Embracing Diversity”, Brook talked about the challenges facing young people living with poverty, unemployment and inequality in South Africa.

South Africa is a country with high levels of violence, rape and murder.  Brook noted that the high level of violence makes access to sport difficult for young people living in disadvantaged areas but that sport can be part of a communities response in seeking to address violence.

He suggested that growing inequality and rising youth unemployment were now major threats to peace around the world and that sport needed to play its part in developing positive attitudes employment skills in young people.
